
The best known legend of poker, Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson has been earning recognition since 1960's when he used to travel around the country to beat the best players in the world. The greatest poker book of all time, Doyle Brunson's Super System: A Course in Power Poker, with its individual sections written by other famous poker players, has been considered the Bible of poker and has sold millions of copies. was released a few years ago and again has sections written by top players of today including Daniel Negreanu. Doyle Brunson is the face of the very secure Doyles Room Poker.
Doyle Brunson's poker accomplishments are phenomenal over his very successful career. Doyle Brunson made the final table of the first World Poker Tour Championship and won the Legends of Poker World Poker Tour event. Doyle Brunson was Inducted into the Poker Walk of Fame alongside Gus Hansen and James Garner.

Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan were alone at the top of the all time bracelet ladder with 10 apiece, until recently when Phil Hellmuth added a tenth and then an eleventh bracelet to take the lead. Doyle Brunson's poker resume is legendary, and his recent success has just added to his lore.
Born in Longworth, Texas on August 10, 1933, he grew up playing several sports, most notably basketball and track.
He was selected as one of the five best basketball players in the state of Texas. Doyle's athleticism was showcased while dominating Texas in high school track and field. Easily the fastest mile runner in the state running the mile in 4 minutes and 18 seconds. In his famous book Super Sytstem, Doyle mentions how a stack of sheet rock fell and crushed his leg. The knee injury kept him from going to the NBA where the Minneapolis Lakers wanted to draft him.
Doyle Brunson began focusing on poker to satisfy his competitive needs.
Like Amarillo Slim, "Texas Dolly" was also a well known prop better, including a famous bet where he won $1 million when a friend bet he could not lose 100 pounds off of his current weight.

Doyle married his wife Louise in 1962, and they had four children, including successful top poker pro, Todd Brunson. You will often here the term "Doyle Brunson" at the table in reference to the poker hand 10-2, because this is the final hand from both of his main event championships in the mid-1970s.
